Playwrights Foundation Intern/Fellow Project, July 21, 2016

While working as interns, fellows and production assistants for for the 39th Bay Area Playwrights Festival, Lana Cosic, Emile Lacheny, Rochelle Malter, and myself produced A Night of New Works. It was an evening of short play readings geared towards early-career artists in the Bay Area. Each play, or play excerpt, was accompanied by a ten-minute talkback moderated by one of us, utilizing Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process.

The plays chosen were:

  1. Phoenix (excerpt) by Sowmya Ashokkumar
  2. Dull Boy (excerpt) by Elva Bonsall
  3. Meow Meow Hiss by Nicholas Pilapil
  4. Types of Death (excerpt) by Tiana Randall-Quant
  5. Juana, or The Greater Glory (excerpt) by Marissa Skudlarek
  6. The Unavoidable Tragedy of King Larry (excerpt) by Michael Monteiro Wise

After the readings…

Sowmya Ashokkumar was selected to be a member of the 2016-2017 Writers Pool at PlayGround, a Bay Area playwright incubator. (American Theatre Magazine)
