During the 40th Annual Bay Area Playwrights Festival, I had the privilege of moderating a panel discussion called The Role of the Dramaturg: Leadership in New Play Development. I was joined by several of my best and brightest colleagues from the Bay Area and around the country. We discussed process, the role of the new play dramaturg in both a laboratory environment and a producing environment, and how dramaturgs are carving out a space for themselves as leaders in the field who advocate for a more equitable and inclusive theatrical landscape when it comes to what plays they champion for production.
Participating artists included:
Nakissa Etemad, Linda Lombardi, Michael Paller, Karen Altree Piemme, Regina Victor, Jayne Wenger, and Kat Zukaitis.
The full conversation was recorded for posterity; when the transcription becomes available, I will include a link.
